Loimia ramzega sp nov., a new giant species of Terebellidae (Polychaeta) from French waters (Brittany, English Channel) ArchiMer
Lavesque, Nicolas; Bonifacio, Paulo; Londono-mesa, Mario H.; Le Garrec, Vincent; Grall, Jacques.
A new species of Terebellidae, Loimia ramzega sp. nov., has been identified from North Brittany beaches (English Channel). This new species is characterized by its gigantic size (max 650 mm, live), two pairs of lateral lappets on segments 1 and 3; first pair more ventral, second pair more developed and lateral but oblique, with wavy edge. Nine ventral pads from segment 2 (fused on segments 2 and 3), first three pads swollen, next ones subsequently decreasing in size. Three types of notochaetae, asymmetrically bilimbate, symmetrically bilimbate and capillary. Uncini pectinate with 6 teeth (some with 5 teeth) slightly decreasing in size, in one vertical row. Pygidium with about 14 long conical marginal papillae surrounding anus.

Nouveau signalement de l’algue rouge Centroceras clavulatum (Agardh) Montagne dans les eaux bretonnes ArchiMer
Le Duff, Michel; Le Garrec, Vincent; Ar Gall, Erwan.
The presence of Centroceras clavulatum is reported for the first time in the Western Channel, off Bréhat island. We hypothesize and discuss that its presence is linked with the oyster farming activities.

Regional and latitudinal patterns of soft-bottom macrobenthic invertebrates along French coasts: Results from the RESOMAR database ArchiMer
Gallon, Regis K.; Lavesque, Nicolas; Grall, Jacques; Labrune, Celine; Gremare, Antoine; Bachelet, Guy; Blanchet, Hugues; Bonifacio, Paulo; Bouchet, Vincent M. P.; Dauvin, Jean-claude; Desroy, Nicolas; Gentil, Franck; Guerin, Laurent; Houbin, Celine; Jourde, Jerome; Laurand, Sandrine; Le Duff, Michel; Le Garrec, Vincent; De Montaudouin, Xavier; Olivier, Frederic; Orvain, Francis; Sauriau, Pierre-guy; Thiebaut, Eric; Gauthier, Olivier.
This study aims to describe the patterns of soft bottom macrozoobenthic richness along French coasts. It is based on a collaborative database developed by the “Réseau des Stations et Observatoires Marins” (RESOMAR). We investigated patterns of species richness in sublittoral soft bottom habitats (EUNIS level 3) at two different spatial scales: 1) seaboards: English Channel, Bay of Biscay and Mediterranean Sea and 2) 0.5° latitudinal and longitudinal grid. Total observed richness, rarefaction curves and three incidence-based richness estimators (Chao2, ICE and Jacknife1) were used to compare soft bottom habitats species richness in each seaboard. Overall, the Mediterranean Sea has the highest richness and despite higher sampling effort, the English Channel...

The spread goes on: the non-indigenous species Grandidierella japonica Stephensen, 1938 (Amphipoda: Aoridae) has reached Brittany (Gulf of Morbihan) ArchiMer
Droual, Gabin; Le Garrec, Vincent; Cabelguen, Jérôme; Gélinaud, Guillaume; Grall, Jacques.
For the first time in Brittany, the aorid amphipod Grandidierella japonica Stephensen, 1938 is reported in the Noyalo River (Gulf of Morbihan). The finding of ovigerous females suggests a well-established, self-sustaining population. Similarly to other European localities, we hypothesise that the shellfish farming industry is the main vector of introduction.

Trait‐based approach to monitoring marine benthic data along 500 km of coastline ArchiMer
Boyé, Aurelien; Thiébaut, Éric; Grall, Jacques; Legendre, Pierre; Broudin, Caroline; Houbin, Céline; Le Garrec, Vincent; Maguer, Marion; Droual, Gabin; Gauthier, Olivier.
Aim β diversity and its linkages with ecosystem functioning remain poorly documented. This impedes our capacity to predict biodiversity changes and how they affect ecosystem functioning at scales relevant for conservation. Here, we address the functional implications of ongoing seafloor changes by characterizing at regional scale the taxonomic and functional α and β diversities of benthic habitats currently threatened by biotic homogenization. Location Western Europe. Methods Combining a trait‐based approach to benthic community monitoring data covering a 7‐year period and 500 km of coast, we explored the mechanisms governing community assembly in habitats associated with two types of foundation species, intertidal seagrass and subtidal maerl beds,...
